Breakthrough innovation in the professional audio world are far and few in between. Evans and Sunhouse teamed up with Loft to solve one of the biggest challenges in music creation.
As music becomes more and more digitally generated, traditional musicians have been left behind. Modern drum machines and DAW’s (digital workstations) are more built for producers than for musicians and the art of music creation has been sidestepped by the digital transformation fueled by sampling and synthesizers. Even the category of “electronic drum kits” do not offer freedom of expression and lack the sophistication of an acoustic drum kit.
The team at Sunhouse, a technology company, set off to create the future of AI for the music industry teamed up with Evans and Loft to shift the paradigm in music creation by powering transformative musical experiences based on human intuition. By adopting the latest advances in machine learning, music information retrieval, and signal processing the team set off to create products to empower musicians, not replace them.
Drummers that look for the next paradigm in music creation. Professional and inspired performers have always been disappointed in electronic drums, as they fall short in the nuances of conventional drums and lack the freedom of expression that analog instruments offer.
These users have tried electronic drums and drum triggers in the past, but are generally disappointed in their performance. They would love to incorporate a wider palette of electronically generated sounds, but need a much more sophisticated instrument than trigger based electronic drums can offer.
Creating a system that supercharges an acoustic drum kit, allowing drummers to produce sounds and textures that respond to the nuance of their unique playing style in a way no electronic drum kit or trigger system has been able to do.
Sensory Percussion™ gives drummers the ability to control electronics with their drumsticks, opening up a completely new avenue for creativity and music making. Sunhouse, Evans & Loft teamed up to create an all-in-one Sensory Percussion system utilizing the expertise of each company. Sunhouse worked on the Software platform and collaborated on the sensing platform, while Loft supported the Evans team with Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering and User Experience Design. The platform includes Evans Drums Sensors and the Evans Portal, an audio interface designed for drummers. The Evans Drum Sensor’s versatile design securely clamps to any style of hooped drum, meaning you can use the same sensor on a snare, tom, or bass drum. The Evans Portal has 7 drum sensor inputs, and other inputs for gear like synths, microphones, and guitars, making it a workhorse in both the studio and on stage.
By adopting the latest advances in machine learning, music information retrieval, and signal processing Sensory Percussion makes products to empower musicians, not replace them. Sensory Percussion™ is a patented system for drummers that transforms an acoustic instrument into a powerful controller for digital music making.
