Reducing children's screen time and encouraging play that involves real-world interaction can significantly enhance their developmental engagement. From as early as their first year, young children can start to engage in pretend play, which not only supports early brain development but also integrates them into household activities, giving them a sense of purpose and relieving parents of concerns over excessive screen time.

Challenge
Reducing screen time and promoting real-world interactive play can greatly benefit children's developmental progress. Limiting diverse sensory experiences and interpersonal skills hinders cognitive and emotional growth. Engaging in physical activities and play that require direct interaction with their environment helps children develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity. It also fosters stronger social bonds as they learn to communicate, collaborate, and understand different perspectives through real-life interactions.
Solution
Macy's Geoffrey's Toy Box partnered with Loft to create a toy vacuum specially built on these insights. It offers the dual functionality of entertainment and developmental skill enhancement. They have developed a child-sized version of adult vacuums, which are highly valued for their ability to entertain while simultaneously fostering crucial cognitive, motor, and social skills. By engaging young children in playful yet meaningful activities, this toy vacuum helps develop essential life skills enjoyably and engagingly. It serves as an excellent tool for nurturing independence and instilling a sense of responsibility in toddlers.
Outcome
The Geoffrey's Toy Box vacuums support imaginative play while offering significant developmental benefits for toddlers, preschoolers, and young children. Engaging in open-ended play with toy vacuums is vital for the development of early cognitive abilities and language skills. The versatile design allows for multiple play patterns, as it functions both as a handheld and a stick vacuum with a roller that spins confetti. The main body also features spinning confetti, enhancing the visual appeal. Additionally, the vacuum provides safe-to-play suction, enabling realistic role-play without the risk of household damage.

Open Cooperative Engagement
Using this toy, children can invent and act out their narratives, sometimes incorporating family members, friends, or favorite toys. This type of play offers insights into their thought processes, including how they understand and apply rules, engage in cooperative play, and interpret their environment. For instance, a child might mimic dropping crumbs and cleaning them up, mirroring adult behaviors they observe.
